Back at the Bench

Prince Nymph Size 12
As we get into the winter months, I have started to replenish my fly boxes. I thought that I would start out with this Prince Nymph size 12-18. I have also been working on some Brassie and Copper Johns in similar sizes.  I am still hoping to get out on the water before everything is froze solid but with the weather conditions being as bad as it is, I think that chance is dwindling away. Hope everyone else is getting back to the bench and tying up some sweet flies for next season.

Tight lines everybody!

What? Not Even a White Fish?

Made it out on the river today and came back empty handed. With the rivers fluctuating flow so often and so rapidly they really don't  produce any action. Although it was good to get out of the house today since its been awhile. I may have not caught anything on the rod but my eyes caught a few Bald Eagles hunting with no luck as well. I started out using a gold stone for some weight with a small 18-22 copper john as a trailer then moved on to some streamers. I was sure I would at least pull a white fish or two but not even that. I am hoping to get out more before the rivers freeze up in the next month month and a half. We just hired a new contractor/employee at QEP and come to find out he loves to tie flies and fly fish as well. So I am looking forward to get out on the water later in the month with him. I hope to catch something if we do make it out. As far as the steelhead run goes, there really isn't a great report to intrigue me on heading to Idaho for the fall run yet this year. So perhaps I will have skip the fall run and just hit the spring run.

Till next time, rip some lips!

Sports & Fishing

Well, now that Middle School football is coming to an end I may have more time to get out and fool some fish. This is the first year that I have coached Middle School football and I have to say it has challenged my patience more than once. In other news, fall/winter steelhead well be starting here very soon and I am definitely looking forward to that little escapade. Also, I am working on another project that should be completed within the next few months and I will announce it then!

High Water

As the days pass I keep hoping for some heat to melt this blasted snow that we have in the high elevations (Wind River Range) but it just won't warm up. I haven't even thought about going out around here with this dirty water. As far as the salmon run goes in Idaho, the water is way to high for the fish to even have a fighting chance to make it past some of the slide areas below Hells Canyon on the Snake River to make it to Riggins or further up to Salmon Idaho. So I sit and watch the hydrologic predictions internet waiting for a miracle to happen. It just needs to hit the 80's or 90's for about a week and get the melting and high water over with. If it hits 100,000 cfs it would clear everything out of the rivers and let the fish make their run! I will touch back with an update hoping to have some pictures to put up. Good luck in the high water!

Practice makes Perfect

Well I figured that I would test my knowledge tonight about tying the good ol' egg loop.  At first I failed horribly but it was just like ridding a bike and passed with flying colors!  Hopefully I will be going to Riggins and hooking up with some salmon in the near future.  On a side note Bodie is being very very stubborn when it comes to walking.  She figures that since she is crawling so fast so doesn't think that she needs to walk.  I'm hopeful that she will forget how to crawl and just start walking!

Steelhead 2011

Claude and I had a very good time up on the salmon river.  Met a few new people that are ga ga about fishing, it diffidently lifted our spirits in the slow times of the day.  Fishing was slow for the most part about 3-5 fish a day.  Slightly on the cold side in the mornings, most of the mornings where about +15 degrees but the last day was +8 when we got to the river.  On another note,  I am really hoping to get out in the next few days here on the new fork and the green!  With salmon season right around the corner its hard to drive myself to get out and fish for these little guys here. Ha!  Till next time.  Rip some lips!

Baby Steps!

So I just wanted to jump in here really fast for an update. My little girl (Bodie) took her first steps last night! So freaking adorable. Kirb and I are so happy to see how much Bodie has grown in the past year. Brings a tear to my eye.

On another note, I am really hoping to get out this week with the warm weather melting the ice and daylight savings bringing more light for serious fishing! I'll get back to you for with hopefully some pics of some nice fishies.

Closer & Closer

I can't believe that it has been over a year since our little girl came into this world! Where did the time go? She has gotten so big and has learned many new things! Now if we only could just get her to start walking. I'm thinking that she thinks she is so fast at crawling that she doesn't think there is any faster way to travel. HA! Now for the update.

Once again I'm here so say a little something about the fishing conditions here in Pinedale, Wyoming. We are still covered in snow but the rivers are staring to opening up slowly but surely. I am planning on hitting up the Hoback River asap, it being the first to open this year. Although there are open places on other rivers that are open but are on private ground. I to believe that Wyoming need to adopt the high water law! Before I can get out I must go and get some new wading boots. Looking at the Simms Rivershed or the Korker with the interchangeable sole system. Need to make up my mind since the season is about to kick off.

Well I hope the next post I have will include some pics of some nice monsters. See you on the water!
